The Paper Artifacts Archive is an ever-expanding collection of posters, flyers, handbills and other ephemera collected, primarily in and around the Philadelphia area. These posters and flyers document local history in a way that newspapers and magazines do not. They represent the interests and concerns of everyday African Americans as well as their local groups and associations and the advertising directed at them. While this collection is aesthetically and artistically enjoyable, it is also a unique database of local information. As the collection grows, it can hopefully become a useful research tool for anthropologists, folklorists, graphic designers, historians and others with an interest in African American culture and politics, the city of Philadelphia or local ephemera.
